Resolving Nokia PC Suite Installation Problems
Posted On Sunday, September 16, 2007 at at 6:55 PM by George S.
Nokia has recently released 6.84 version of the Nokia PC Suite. The software is pretty much the same except it now supports file synchronization. I had have this function on Windows Mobile and ActiveSync and had been terribly missing it on Nokia E90. However, with Nokia PC Suite 6.84 this gap has been filled.
Well, downloading the Nokia PC Suite installation package is a snap. However, installing it may be accompanied with minor difficulties. Soon after you start the installation process, you may encounter something displayed on the screen-shot on the left. If that is the case, simply, keep on reading.
Unfortunately, many users have experienced the same problem. Googling does not give much effect. Most of the "solutions" mention to use the Nokia PC Suite cleaner tool. I used it and it did not work. Neither did I get any effect from the Installer Cleanup tool from Microsoft.
The problem is that PC Suite is not able to uninstall the old connectivity cable driver. Because of this, the whole installation process fails.
The solution that I am describing is 100% workable, guaranteed and it is extremely easy to do. So, let's start. Simply, follow the instructions below and let the magic happen :). I assume that you have already downloaded the installation package.
1. Run the PC Suite Installation package (Nokia_PC_Suite_6_84_10_3_eng_web.exe)
2. In Windows start the search utility (Start Menu -> Search)
3. Choose "All Files and Folders"
4. Enter the following "PCCS.msi" in the first text box and enter "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Installations" in the Look in text box.
5. Run the PCCS.msi installation file.
6. Go one folder up and you should see the following folders:
CommonCustomActions
Nokia PC Suite
Nokia_Connectivity_Cable_Driver
PCCS
7. Go to the "Nokia PC Suite folder" and run the Nokia PC Suite.msi file.
It is assumed that you have installed Windows on driver C and the system folders have default names. Generally, the path where you should find the installation files should be "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Installations". If it is different on your system, then try searching all logic drives.
